Been using the Garmin 205W GPS Travel Assistant I bought for Christmas. Only paid $185 for it. It is so cool! It's very easy to program and use. It tells you when a turn is coming up and will reconfigure your route if you go a different way. It does a bunch of other stuff I have yet to try. I wish I had it all the times I got lost and had to ask directions!

I got one some time ago to replace a Garmin SP III. It's excellent. Much easier to use than the SP III.

I know have a tomtom that replaced my 190 dollar nextar, the tomtom cost 118 and is by far much better than the nextar, it can actually route me around accidents, detours anything, and she has a cool voice her name is mandy, and she gets grumpy when you leave her planned course! never could have made it here without her though

she gets grumpy when you leave her planned course! It's that different tone she uses when she says "RECALCUTING!" I've got a Garmon 760 about a year ago. Don't go far without it now.

She never says recalculating. It's always at the next opportunity turn around than if we don't listen she says TURN AROUND

^^^That's what mine says as soon as she realize that you're deviating from the prescribed route. She then gives you the new directions.

I never probably would have bought a GPS unit, but got a Garmin Streetpilot as a Christmas gift 2 years ago. Now I won't leave home without the thing, it is GREAT. No I don't need/use it on a daily basis, but it's turned on anytime I'm out of town. Even if I know where I'm going, it's nice to have the estimated arrival time on display and be able to quickly plan detours if needed. The 1st and 2nd generation Garmins are dirt cheap now (got my folks one for Christmas this past year for $70) and just as capable as the newer versions that just added features most people will never use, like bluetooth and mp3 interface. P.S. Mine is named "Marla" and I love her British accent voice that I have set.

I bought the Garmin nüvi 250 about 5 years ago. I only take it with me on road trips. I bought Oil Trax which can locate LSD A.K.A. Land Survey Description (sections on farm lands) and do the routing to get there. Which I sometimes spend all day doing. I have to admit though, I am thoroughly disappointed in the quality of the maps for Canada; Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. They are all brutally outdated. Because of this the navigation is pretty horrendous. My cousin from San Francisco called me when he said his GPS told him he was flying over farmers fields. as he used my directions loosely and tried to use the GPS to guide him in. Apparently the major ring road that was constructed 3 years ago never made it into the latest updates Regardless they are fun to have and can make navigating a big city relatively easy, at least you will get there and not get lost doing so. I am currently using my Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 to do my navigating needs. It runs google maps. No turn by turn but I usually just need the address

I was going to get this model until i found out it does not say street names. The voice doesn't say turn left at such and such street but it does have them on the map readout. It does say "Turn left point three miles". I'm not usually looking at street names anyway.

yea text to speech is a great feature and a must with any GPS that you buy I actually find this feature unneeded and sometimes rather annoying, since the GPS's robot voice butchers the pronunciation of many street names. Makes it hard to follow, without looking at the display to see the street name on the map anyway. If you're doing that anyone, what's the point of the feature? Plus I usually have music cranked or something and am not listening to the GPS audio.

I have a removeable TomTom built into my head unit. It's my first GPS but I'm quite impressed. It plays on the drivers side speakers. It can mute the music when giving the next move, and it controls the headunit with touchscreen. Is very quick and easy to navigate between screens from music to gps and gps functions. Edit: Not that it matters much but these radios illuminate red not blue. Not sure whu it's blue in the picture. I picked mine up on ebay for 150 shipped and it came with the kit so you can use it in other vehicles and stuff. Also love the USB port.

Grr..I just had this whole thing typed out when my computer decided to freeze.. Aur1 is your TomTom a model one? Mine is very similar to that model. My voice was named Mandy until I downloaded custom ones. Right now I have Tiger for the Arrow and George W. Bush giving me directions. Make sure to get ALL updates from the program TomTom Home. The radio is an Eclipse AVN2210P and yes that was 150 dollars with the GPS AND the 50 dollar travel kit which consist of a 12 volt socket adapter, suction cup mount, and a black plastic gps shaped face to fill the radio hole. The CD player is hidden. The whole face tilts down to unfold a hidden cd deck. But with USB cd's are a thing of the past. The radio itself is a very quality unit some of Eclipse's finest. Very impressive features such as 5 volt preouts, USB, full sub controls with lpf etc. Here are Eclipse's links on them First Run (my model I think as I have red lights) www.eclipse-web.com/us/avn/avn2210poverviews.htmlSecond Run, I guess they DO have blue lights, www.eclipse-web.com/us/avn/avn2210pmk2overviews.htmlNEWEST MODEL WITH DVD AND BIGGER TOMTOM! www.eclipse-web.com/us/avn/avn4430overviews.htmlEdit: Forgot my beefs. Reception isn't on par with factory or the JVC it replaced and it's hard to fit in the dash. You can't have your shifter in park with a bigger flash drive without running an extension cord or reefing up on it. Tilting for Cd's is extremely close to hitting shifter when in park. I've had big flash drives catch and stop it a few times before I got an extension cord with no harm done. All in all though I LOVE this radio. If anybody is interested in getting one I won my first won for 100 shipped but refused to pay because I never seen pictures of the actual item. This was buy it now 250 or best offer. I through an offer of 150 and got it. A Best Buy broker seemed to be selling it. It was stated though as new open box. I checked the gps history and it was more like used in brand new shape but nothing is wrong and it looks fantastic so I'm not complaining. You can get them new on ebay for around 300 or I've seen a few go on bid used for just under 2.
