Hello everyone. I am going to install a nav unit in my 01 aurora. The nav system I am installing recommends to use the vss wire to get a more accurate reading etc. Does anyone knows where can tap on to that cable near the radio. I read on a post that since the radio has the vsc the cable is within the radio plug but I don't know if that is true nor the color of that cable. tx.

well the cable on the aurora for the deck is a ribbon just so you know so cutting those is near impossible, as for the vss wire where it is sorry I havent a clue try calling a few places locally ( or out of town )

I would love to have factory nav in mine. Was NAV even an original option for the Aurora?

Let me know if you figure it out. I am curious if I could make that factory nav work on my 97 model.

I dont think its possible since it was designed for the second generation dashboard. That said, with the right wiring, anything is possible. I have never seen behind the deck of a '97 but if its a ribbon then you may be able to fit an aftermarket nav in there

I had a sweet 2G traded in at my dealership last week. Im trying to convince myself not to buy it. We dont have much in it and I can pick it up on the cheap, but I have too many cars, any more and I will own stock in Allstate to keep them insured.

I really love my 2g and recently I learned how easy DIY projects are on GM cars so I figured I might as well do some work on mine. I need help finding the VSS wire and attaching it to the right strip of metal on the harness, but I can get the rest from there I think.

You need an after market adapter that has all the wires you need This interface will retain the Bose & Onstar (if applicable) feature If you do not have Onstar and without a Premium Audio System (Bose) CLICK HERE If you have Onstar without Bose Premium Sound CLICK HERE Creates a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sense) wire. Useful when installing a Navigation Radio Provides +12v databus generated switched accessory output with R.A.P. No more searching for switched +12v in fuse box or kick panel Dimmer/Illumination output wire New radio will operate with the vehicle R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power) system. This feature will keep the radio on, while the car is off, but before the door is opened. Just like the factory radio did Retains warning chimes the auction has ended but thats what you need cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AXXESS-GMOS-LAN-05-ONSTAR-BOSE-HARNESS-GMOSLAN05-UPDATE-/150272033222

thanks a lot but with this work with the ribbon in the deck of the aurora? it seems like it will take up a lot of room that the radio needs since its basically a plug and play system

Nevermind I checked their compatibility list and it doesnt work with the aurora. I guess I'll just have to stick with the original plan of soldering the spliced VSS wire to one of the strips of metal on the ribbon

well thanks a whole lot for this info. Is there any other wiring I need to do to make it compatible, or do I just plug everything in and turn it on?

thanks so much you are a life saver. I found the adapter on ebay for $80 and I have no qualms with paying the extra money so i dont have to do any wiring or anything. Did you have to buy the antenna also?

yes u have to buy antenna adapter also OLDSMOBILE RADIO Antenna Adaptor AM/FM Harness 2001-03 (Fits: Oldsmobile Aurora 2001) and of cause the Radio Install mounting kit and you might need to cut some corners on the radio Basel to make sure it closing good with new radio depends on radio screen size might not mine is 7" so had to cut some corners out. One more thing if you installing DVD nav system and you want videos to play when car is moving just connect Parking brake wire usually green to the ground cable or ground to the car that will fool the system like you in park and a low to play Dvd videos while not in park just make sure u don’t buy extra things to "bypass" the parking thing its just waste of $ while you can do it ur self. welcome

I was planning on putting the factory aurora navigation system in it so would I still have to buy the antenna adapter and everything?

sorry I meant a new GPS antenna. I read that I would have to buy a GPS antenna so my OEM nav system would work since its a factory system that I'm replacing

if you put origenal Nav system than u dont need the Aftermarket adpter it will find VSS wire itself but yes you need the GPS antena .since your origenal radio allready has VSS feature so if u put origenal NAv system than it will work with existing set up i was thinking u instaling aftermarket radio.

So with the factory OEM I won't need to find the VSS wire and splice it and all that to use the navigation? That's certainly good news

i am 99 % sure but if it does than adapter you got will show witch pin is VSS so u can solder the line in but i think u wont need that. and than if u already got the adapter u can return it. How to connect antenna that i am not sure never did it.

I just figured I would have to do the VSS wire mod since I have an '01 instead of a later '02 or '03 so I would definitely need to find out where to solder the wire and everything, but thats not the end of the world. Maybe I can contact the company that manufactures the adapter to see if they will send me a copy of the installation instructions

it will have install instructions but try to install it without the mod and see if it works i believe it should work since regular radio has VSS feature that if you go faster the volume goes up and if you slow down it goes down.
