WOW, nearly the same accident happened to my last Aurora, although I don't think he was drinking. I was able to pull a little out of the way at least and avoid some of the impact, still totaled her though . She sure can take a punch and leave you unscathed... You can see my story hereI feel your pain, it sure does suck losing your baby. He has insurance? It should cover it. I got $4300 for mine (she had 135k on her) and ended up finding my new one with 53k miles for $2200! If you want another Aurora they are out there, just be patient, took me over a month of searching every day to find the perfect one for me. The best news from all of this is you and your passengers are ok! How did he end up? PS I like your rims, I was going to do that to my first aurora, always wondered how they would look.

Wow, glad to hear you and your friends are ok. Sad to see the aurora like that tho. The car looked clean too, i also like the look of the black rims on that color.

Sad to see, but very glad you're ok!! I almost got creamed Monday morning when someone turned left across three lanes while I was coming up behind them in the center lane. I skidded, honked and swerved, they barely stopped in time to let me squeeze safely past. I was tallying parts before they even stopped... Fender, both doors, probably a headlight... Phew!!!

That image is a true testament to the strength and safety of the Aurora. I rolled my first one down a ravine. In an accident that most would say should have severely injured me, I walked away with not a scratch. The Aurora looked pretty darn good too, considering the hits it took. Just a broken sunroof and some indentations in the top.
Either way, your Aurora did her job. The crinkle zones worked as they should have. If you go to the rear of the car, you will probably notice your exhaust shifted. IIRMC the Aurora's crumple zone passed as much energy from the collision down the frame to the rear of the car. Allowing the car to absorb more of the impact, and not you.
Just glad you're still with us!

My God I'm happy u all walked away from that. Man they weren't kidding when they said these auroras broke the crash test machines when they were first put into production. Of all the accidents with the auroras on this forum that were really bad, everyone has walked away from the accidents.

Thanks everyone. yeah I kept her really clean. No matter where I went, I always carried some microfiber towels and a bottle of quick detailer, and before i would leave ANYWHERE, I always wiped her down. my gf hated it lol but she was always clean and I was proud of it. I found a 99, black with the same color cream interior as mine, and I always wanted to paint mine black, 92,000 miles on it, the guy is only asking 1000 bucks. its about 2 hours away from me but maybe it would be worth it.

Glad you and you friends are ok. Looks like the safety technology did what it was suppose to! Really sucks to lose a car you took such good care of.

Most important you all walked away. Thank you God! This reminds all of us, that although we as drivers may be the safest drivers, there are also others that make bad judgement calls. May the person responsible learn their lesson from this.

I was going to post something similar, but you posted what I wanted too probably better than I could of expressed it. So many people when they find out I have an Aurora they immediately know how the 1G Aurora broke the car crash tester and had to be tested on a big truck crash tester because of the cars rigidity and stability, and most also will say how they've heard of the tons of statements of the Uni-Body being one of GMS most rigid car frames/uni-bodies out there and it's extreme low vibrational hertz rating and even beats most expensive luxury imports today! And for all it's safety and rigidity they really didn't tack much extra weight on (really if any), look at the 98+ Seville it's Shorter and has a shorter wheelbase it's pretty much the same width (a TINY TAD bit wider is all) and still weighs about equal and sure the STS has tons of features that will add weight but even a base SLS weight for examlple compared to a 95-99 aurora weight.

What I find strange is that these cars had so-so crash test ratings when new, yet every pic I've ever seen of a crashed Aurora has looked like these, with a very intact passenger compartment. My thought: with such a rigid structure, maybe more of the force it transmitted to the occupants vs. the car crumpling around them? I dunno. But I'll tell you this: I'd rather have a car that performs like this in a crash vs. one that crumples and disintegrates on impact!

The crumple zones are so the rest of the car can take the impact instead of the passengers, just FYI. You get in a wreck in an older car (like 60s/50s/70s etc)) that wasn't designed with crumple zones and you'll have a much harder time lol. Car will be fine, but you won't be. Frankly, I'd rather have a car that totals easily and save my life & the lives around me. The Aurora (and most modern cars) are really good about this. Cars can be replaced... people cannot.
