I recently purchased a 2001 aurora she is beautiful.....only one problem head gaskets.. I've wanted an Aurora since I saw it at a dealership. so, I bought this one thinking okay its just head gaskets I got it. Then, I opened it up and whoa, way more to this motor that any import I've ever worked on. I cant wait to actually get to drive it. anything at all will be awesome. thanks for your time.

Does anyone know how to time a 3.5 shortstar I am replacing the head gaskets and cannot seem to find a repair manual anywhere!!!!! Repair manuals are are easy to find. I sent you the link in a PM yesterday. Here is 3.5L head repair link. It would be in best interest to simply start a new thread and likely would have had a few responses already. HTH. aurorah.proboards.com/thread/26806/3-5-head-gaskets?page=1Welcome to the forum. HTH & Good luck. I am sure if ya have any questions someone more knowledgeable on the repair may help!

First, it would be best to pull the motor to do this repair, makes it a lot easier. LX5 3.5 V6 is similar to the Northstar, when you pull the head bolts you are more than likely going to tear threads out of the aluminum block. You will need to drill every hole, tap it, and use inserts or head studs. I used NORMs inserts on the 3.5 I did, but that was customer choice, if it was mine I would be using studs instead of inserts. I took my time on the one I worked on, nice and easy, wanted it fixed right the first time, probably 35-40 hours, that includes removing and installing the motor. The cam holder tools also help out a bunch, they hold the cams in place and also line them up like they should be. I have a set if you want them, $45 shipping included, that is close to what I paid for them.

Ok so I started this project in the car and trying to be budget friendly I was given 1500. I'm at 2000.00 with nothing left. I cannot pull the motor due to my lease I have to be able to cover it up at night...crappy situation to start. However, soldering on any advice on the rear exhaust manifold mine is welded to the crossover pipe I have removed the shifting cable, valve cover, intake manifold, all that good stuff. Should I disconnect the coupler and pull head and manifold together? Or is there actually a way to get it out?

You have already spent $2000 before you pulled it?
In comparison,
I paid $2900 for a brand new motor shipped.
What costs $2000?
