I thought this might make the cutting easier. I haven't tried it out yet. I tried this out today. It worked excellent! It chewed threw plastic faster than Collins at a party. I cut one open in about 5 minutes, while I was standing and holding it. It even fits under a couple of the tabs. The last ones I did took me a couple hours just cutting them. The discs kept breaking and it wasn't a pleasant experience.

I just opened up another set a couple days ago and that wasn't fun. I used a razor, a couple screwdrivers, and a heat gun... Took about 45 mins a piece. It ran on me a lot too. They can definitely be used, the cut just wasn't as clean as I would've hoped!
I'll have to get that dremel bit... looks like a good way to do it. If it can chew faster than me then I've GOT to get one! ;D

Those look stellar... I wish I had an extra set of clears to sacrifice so that the lens can be uniform like yours is.

I actually like the contrast when with the checkered diffuser. But maybe I'm biased since I gave that idea to 'Shroom.

Doing what Randy did, certainly looks better, the only thing is functionality. The purpose of the front part is to cast a bunch of light far forward, to illuminate the road so you can see while turning. And when viewing from the side, it doesn't really appear to light up. But the purpose of the turning signal part, is for cars along side to see your signal. Using the stock lens would, I think, don't really allow people to see your signal? As where the checkered diffuser, does this job. I.E;

I definitely like it too, I make mine with a diffuser panel as well. It would just be interesting to see the difference, Randy's looks more like a "factory option" if you will.

Nothing wrong with improving a good idea. Mine look great, and I wouldn't do it any other way. I haven't decided if I like the leds yet, they cast too much of a blue light.

Thanks, 95mushroom, that's a great writeup. I never thought I could do something like that until after I read it. I followed the directions from your first writeup, and the second one describes it perfectly. Make sure you wear safety glasses if you are doing this, I had the disc explode a couple of times. And watch your cutting angle, I got into the lens so you need to watch out for that. That smell is horrible I could smell it for a couple days. Other than that it went great. I sacrificed a couple lenses so I could match the look. I also had to cut down some tabs on the light assembly to fit the lens properly. They are going in my silver Aurora. This pic is before I sanded and cleaned them up. After another layer of silicone and some Plast-x they will be done. I used clear silicone to seal it together. This was the reason I just joined up here by looking at this mod on some cardomain member's page. What I don't understand is are you all literally cutting in between the lens and the assembly or just removing the glue from the crack? Just need some clarification!

I always cut between the lens and the assembly. You can try to heat them up and remove the glue if you like. With a small enough dremel you can just cut along the glue line, however. I had one set of lenses that popped apart immediately after I heated them, but all the others (four or five sets) had to be cut apart no matter how hot I got them or for how long they were heated.

No problem! Its a great mod to do and it looks great. If you have an extra set to spare you can do them like Randy did and make them uniform (I'm still jealous of that), you can use a cutout from a flourescent light diffuser panel like I do, or you can just leave it open.
If you have any questions just post them, I'll do my best to answer them. Just because I sell them doesn't mean I won't help out those who want to do it themselves! ;D

That bit is small! I dont understnd how it would be long enough to get fully undernath the lens and in between the housing? Anyone have any close ups or examples of where to cut. I;m a visual person!!

I'll take a couple pictures for you tomorrow. Basically it's where the clear lens meets the gray plastic housing. I use a much larger dremel multimax, it works just as well as that tiny one. Just be careful of that molten plastic flying around. Having that stuff hit your eyes isn't fun!

Great I'd appreciate that! I looked up the dremel multimax looks just like one of those oscillating tools everyone carries now. I do know someone that has one. Which attachment are you using with it?

i like the way mine look b/c collins used the glass from a strip light and one half of the lens looks like the belly of a snake and the other half looks like the top side scales.
