Just noticed the head and taillights flickering on and off intermittently when the car is off. First time I noticed it. It's a 99 with 101k. Looks like from the internet could be a "black box" under the dash. Umm, ok. Any ideas?

Oh brother. Sounds like quite the project. It does the clicking(sounds like the turning signal) at start up as well for a few seconds.

Yep this is more than likely the multifunction switch. Cleaning it worked for me for awhile but eventually it wouldn't stop. I replaced it with a different one from a salvage yard and haven't had an issue since. Not a difficult job, just very time consuming removing the shroud for the column, the kick panel, the lower dash panel, etc. I'm just worried about the day that this one starts doing it too, I get the feeling that it will one day happen no matter what you do. FYI you can disconnect a connector from the LCM (the black box under the dash) and not have to worry about the headlights flashing when you're away from the car and for daytime driving; the headlights wont work but the brake lights and turn signals will. Of course you will have to reconnect it for night driving ....you can unplug the left connector on the LCM. Under the dash, remove the black plastic kick guard on bottom (3 screws), to the left of the steering column (near the emergency brake)you will see two boxes mounted vertically to a plastic bracket back to back with connectors facing the floor, the box on the right (if looking towards the front of the car) is the LCM. If you unplug the left connector, lights wont flash. The switch will also be non-functional except for the turn signal and flash to pass features. I/e if you need to drive at night you'll have to plug it back in while you drive, but is normal functioning during the day. Clearly not a permanent solution, but it will get you by until you can locate a switch.

Well, guess I'll be tearing it apart. Don't know if cleaning it is the permanent solution. What about all the dielectric grease you'll be removing.

I'd say safe to re-apply where needed, but don't over do it

A headlamp is a lamp attached to the front of a vehicle to light the road ahead. While it is common for the term headlight to be used interchangeably in informal discussion, headlamp is the term for the device itself, while headlight properly refers to the beam of light produced and distributed by the device. Bot?
