That's funny. This is an air pump, not sure exactly how it's called, and the plastic casing was cracked and coming apart. I guess this is the one that makes an awesome (.....yeah) turbine sound just after engine startup.
I have seen it somewhere on this site, where somebody had to replace it and used a Cadillac pump because the Olds one is not available anymore.

...after browsing in my 2003 manual, this looks like the secondary AIR pump, and the broken plastic thing is gm 12567496 / the baffle or shield protecting the pump. So I guess I need to fabricate a baffle, and/or replace the pump if I hope it will be less noisy ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I was trying to be lazy and do the entire pump replacement without removing the wheel well inner plastic cover, but that is not possible ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The pump is replaced. The original setup had been patched, the air tube was hanging by a tie-wrap inside the fender, the filter screen at the tip was packed with dirt, etc. The air tube sold with the new pump is not for the Aurora, I found it short so I reused part of the old tube. Now it's all clean, and the car does not make the angry vacuum cleaner sound at startup.

cool good job:) yes that's how the filter was instilled at the factory . So the new design makes more sense . I hope you didnt forget to zip tie the pump where the bottom part clips on to the top after while clips get loose and you go over a puddle and back to squire one .

They sure were cutting corners! Worst part is that there was a correct-shaped hole for the air intake bezel in the inner fender/bracket sheet metal... & good point about adding a 2nd way of securing the clip-on thing... will look into it.
