Uh, YES. This seems like the best idea thus far. I wonder if the car show takes "local" car groups, or would provide lot space? You all catching my drift here? We have friends in North Aurora, so I'd have a place to crash Fri-Sat if needed. And everyone else can hang at oldsnut's pad. LOL ;D Anything is possible in regards to accommodations. Kay, the garage is off limits to you. I might still have the Doghouse out back. You didn't include my quote in there! uh, I was talking about Scotty's friends garage but, thanks for being such a gentleman yep, just like my brothers, well one of them anyways. I thought you were "wicked cool" oldsnut, but I guess I'll save that one for my bro in CA who gave me a kidney ;D btw, We live an hour away so if we are able to make it we would probably just head back home. Besides, the hubby snores and I grind my teeth, we would keep your neighbors up ;D Anyway, like Scotty said we have to rely on the local folk (oldsnut) to work out the details. It's a big job, oldsnut, but I know you can do it! ;D And, if you are really nice to me, I may even help you in the planning. Really, I like all the ideas, I'm pretty agreeable

I am not sure what kind of a car show this is. I an call and see if they limit what years are allowed in the show. When you ask what years they allow, be sure to tell them we have a bunch of Auroras! ;D

Don't go to too much trouble with the "planning" aspect. All we really need to know is what kind of space will be available, and if the "car show" is already planned or open to a local car club. You don't have to tell them we're internet forumites who have never had a meet yet. Even just to find out where the events are located (and if there's open parking space nearby for us to gather) would be helpful.

Believe me, I am not gonna go to to much trouble. I am personally in favor of just a meet on a Saturday afternoon with some burgers and Brats on a grill. Bring the kiddies if you've got some and talk Aurora, Olds and Life. Ain't no better way for this group to get together IMO. Afterwards, if some of the stragglers want to come over to Oldsnuts place and chill for some cold ones (Minors Excluded) that's fine with me.
My best friend was met at a car show, we still speak to this day.
This would be our first meet in Illinois, I feel that chatting and stuff without all of the distractions would be better foir the group overall.

Not a bad idea at all. Any good parks around Aurora? My thought with the town "festival" was just that it would give folks something to do later in the evening, and an extra reason to drive hours to get there.

So I have to ask, what are the best weekends in May, June and July for the group? Send the info in a private message so not to crap up the thread. That will help us set a weekend to hold this meet.

I just got off the phone with Gina Moga at the Aurora Mayors office and said that the car show at "Downtown Alive" is mostly older cars up to the 70's. They do get some newer cars but not many.
I told her we were from the Aurora Club and chose Auroa as our destination for a Saturday meet which she thought was cool. She did say that if we had enough cars at the Friday night show, she could have a special area set up for all of us to park for up to 15 cars.

We should see how many are interested in coming in the night before. I thought the people coming some distance might be interested. If enough people decide to come, I'll be there, I am not that far away. Thanks, Oldsnut, you're wicked cool...again oh and btw, no weddings or graduations this year, so I am good to go when ever. ooops, forgot, I do have a wedding in June. I don't know the date yet (they keep changing it it was suppose to be 6/7/8, so the hubby-to-be would never forget their anniversary ;D) I'll find out.

(But after that, who knows ;D ) Got the date...June 14th I will be unavailable.

How do the the dates of June 7th or June 20th sound for potential dates?
How many would be interested in T-Shirts for the group? Nothing to expensive. Kay and myself both have ways of getting them done.
Let me know what you folks think.

I have thrown some ideas out there, along with others, for a "name". I also think the shirts are a pretty neat idea. I have also been trying to work on a design, something to suit both classic and second gen owners. I have said it before, I am not very creative, so if anyone has any ideas or thoughts about this, send me a pm. Yes, I have a creative daughter, but she is very busy with school and that is #1. I did however, run it by her today just to see what she thought of my ideas and if she had any thoughts of her own on it. she said "You're a dork"...lol ;D She thought it sounded like I already had a few good ideas I'm not going to go into them now, but send me yours and maybe some kind of combination of ideas would work. Please don't post it here, I don't want to get on Scotty's bad side, ;D send a PM

Here is the shirt we designed for the Alero show last year in Lansing, MI, we fondly refer to it as the ASS Show. We could have pictures of a 1st and 2nd Gen. made to look something like this with the Aurora logo and show name. The more colors you add means more $$. Grey is the best for shirts, white shows dirt to easy and you will roast in black shirts. Everyone that got this shirt loved it. That's my .02 worth.

The lake location I was thinking of is off I-88 between Rt.59 and Winfield Rd. It is beautiful, but I would have to call the DuPage Cty, Park Dist. to get approval to block off a small area for our group. I saw a spot that was covered with tables. This is not set in stone Kliff, but I am sure will get you close. Aurora is not that big, so I would imagine once you get there you are 20 minutes from anywhere. Considering the drive you are making, it will be a drop in the bucket. btw, it is far enough outside Chicago that makes it very easy to find and pretty much a small town so it's not confusing, if you know what I mean.

It looks like the date will be June 21st for the daytime meet since nobody has disagreed with the date. For those that are going to come a day early (2oth)we could sign up for the car show during Aurora's "Downtown Alive" but I have never been and don't know what to expect. You guys let me know on that one.
I am still looking at several Forest Preserve of of the Fox River and the original one that I posted. The bad part about the original location is that they charge a $75-$90 non-resident use fee for the shelter areas with tables and built in grills which are really nice.
Next question is if we decide to do shirts, do we want to take some stock photos of Aurora and have them converted to look like the shirt that I posted above or vote on 2 members cars?

Sounds good so far! Thanks for all your legwork in this little endeavor. Next question is if we decide to do shirts, do we want to take some stock photos of Aurora and have them converted to look like the shirt that I posted above or vote on 2 members cars? I'm good with either option, but (no offense to your Alero shirts) I'd rather not have a pimped out 'rora on 22's for the shirt. A couple of "sketched" stock photos -or- members cars would be cool. The problem with custom shirts like that is oftentimes you have to order something like 50 at a time, or the cost is way high. So you'd have to "know someone" if we're talking about 10 shirts.

I agree with the "No Pimped Aurora" for the shirts, I was thinking stock all along. As for qty. of shirts, I was thinking that some guys (or gal) would like to have one for their spouse or their kids so we may get mor than 10.

we could take a picture of a bunch of different ones from the side and photoshop them together with a gradient from front to back to cover a bunch of different colors.

I am not good at photoshop, but go for it austinator. I would like to see what you could put together. I agree with Scotty and oldsnut, I would rather not have a pimped out Aurora either. I have been thinking about this "show" on friday night. Anyone have any interest in it? When Scotty first brought up the idea about being part of it, it sounded pretty cool, but I am having second thoughts. I like my car but it is not a show car by a long shot. I remember as a teenager, they use to have cruise nights in the next town over, some of the cars were hot and some were not. but, especially since oldsnut has not been and doesn't know what to expect, I am kinda thinking against it. However, if there is interest I may show up, but probably not to be part of the show.
