Got some more mods done today. Calibrated the mirror (Thx TJM!), and installed a grounding kit today. Big difference so far! Well the first 2 starts have been weird but it finds idle quicker and idles better. Driving it now, I understand Jim's "mushyness." Throttle response is "crisp" all the time. No variance in power levels. Also sometimes it would start in 2nd under moderate throttle but now it loves revving and being it first. Steven would love this mod. Also shown is the homelink unit I installed a while ago (back on edmunds). My garage door opener door was broken. You can tell the difference between the 95's mushroom and the later neutral colors. Installation was pretty easy. I ran the power from the map lights. Works great! We have a gate opener for our community at home and it works from far away. Barely have to slow for the gate. This one is comparing the new and old mirrors. The 97's have a switch instead of the 98/99's buttons. The OFF/ M / C/M and arrows light up at night in the same blue-green as the rest of the car. Looks awesome. Pay $41 shipped off ebay. AF mirror usually charge like $150 bux to upgrade to a compass mirror. Here's the shot of mirror and homelink (note the diff. colors. Its not that bad in person, matches the grab handles) This is the first part of the grounding kit. The shock tower/strut bar to the wiper motor. Then the motor to the coil pack. I ran it to the rear screw. The front one already has a ground on mine that wasn't pictured on Jim's. (Maybe I missed it?) Sorry for the import looking wire. I have like 30 ft. extra from the stereo wiring kit I bought. Only used the 8 gauge for the subs. Then the throttle body to the ETCBM.

Looks sharp. I will do the grounding kit mod one day. One question I have though, and I know it is still to early to tell, is your gas mileage improving?

No idea yet, under 5 miles since I installed it. I report back tomorrow. Although it may take sometime as the excellent pickup is pretty seductive;).

Man, your 95 doesn't hardly look like a 95 anymore! Thanks for the pics of the grounding kit connections also... that and the strut bar addition are two cheap mods I plan on doing soon myself. Did you solder any connections for your wire loops, or just crimp the connectors onto the bare wire?

Yea, I think the total was about $40 including the strut bar and shipping for both mods since I had the wiring. I just crimped them. I tugged each to ensure they aren't going to come lose and thought solder was just redundant. And I bought heat shrink wrap too but the plastic insulator on the connectors was more then tight even. Just be careful when running the TB to ETCBM wire as there is a couple moving parts and a lot of really hot parts.

The biggest thing is to avoid all the coolant lines. There has to be 20 of them. I used 8 gauge wire, which is somwhat inflexable. So you can run the wire by a coolant line just make sure it doesn't touch or rest on one. I ran mine in the pic, under and around the TB and then zip-tied it to the end of that idle-adjust motor as to not get caught up in that. Then to the hard brake lines and to the ETCBM. Dunno how different the later years are w/o the oil cooler lines and stuff.

Bobby and I (w3rk5 here) measured each length of wire to ensure clearance from heat and moving parts...3 zip ties in total were used.

Mine is auction #7989782716. We paid the same exact price too lol. The 97's have a switch and the 98/99's have buttons.
The purpose of the grounding kit is to provide a more efficient way for the current to run, especially under a load (driving) in which the electrical system is also under a load and running a lot of current. Higher efficiency allows all of the cars sensors and components to run at full strength. For me, driving today, it seems like my car loves 1st now. Before, under anything less then 1/2 throttle it would go in 2nd. Now, even 1/8 throttle it will run in 1st.

nice so was the calibration pretty easy? Yep, couldn't be easier. Press and hold for 10 seconds, drive slowly around in a circle (just drag the brakes at idle) and your done. You may want to adjust it to your correct zone too. Here's the instructions. Page 107 www.mygmlink.com/pdf/go2content/manual/US/en/oldsmobile/1999aurora.pdfDan, thanks. Always looking for some mods. Gotta think up some more. i think id like the mirror with the buttons instead of the switch. is there some reason it wouldnt work? I like the switch because all the stuff lights up the same blue-green as the rest of the car, looks great at night. Dunno if the buttons light up too. It definitely will work. You will need an Aurora mirror though. Make sure it doesn't have a temperature display or the 99's optional On-Star. Otherwise all the mirrors 95-99 are exactly the same. They even use the same color wiring.

I think steven was talking about betonthis, which, his is a 96, but 96s don't have a compass, 97-99 affair.
