What would you estimate that the total Time/Cost of doing this is?

I'm still debating on whether or not I'll be able to come to MO lol Gas prices and such
As far as total cost lets see:
Projector Kit- $270 Supplies (wire nuts, silicone, sandpaper, graphite lube, diode, zip ties, )- $15-20
I'd say you could come in at $300 or under, depends on whether you have HID's already and just want to use those with the projectors and what supplies you have already.
Time: I'd say you could knock it out in 2 days especially if you had a spare set of lights, if not, it might take you a bit longer

I've taken a look at the website, but I'm considering just doing low-beam HIDs, and keeping the high-beams as high beams.
What is better - the Bi-Xenon projector, or going with low beams / high beams (low beams being projectors) ?

bi-xeon would be best honestly as HID's work so much better

Well, If you don't want HID highs, go with the regular projectors, If you want VERY BRIGHT highs go with bi-xenon (your regular highs would work + the projectors). Its up to you. The normal highs work well and I think the regular projectors + highs would work perfectly fine for any visual need you would have.

OH! I guess I should have re-read the walkthrough ANOTHER time. I didn't see that the high beams already work along with the highs on the projector. That's my question...
Now, I just have to get this done.. can take a bit of time =)

One of the best and most detailed Tutorials I've EVER seen online in any forum. Great job. Wonder if this can be accomplished with Cougar projectors ;D

very good job mates, this is something that I would have to have done to my Aurora back in the day.

So I recently completed this project and here are a few helpful suggestions in no particular order…..
1. Putting the headlight in the oven on warm for about 5-10 minutes and the headlight will separate with ease. (97 Aurora) If you want your wife to ever cook for you again do not do this while she is home.
2. The morimoto mini H1 would be the only size projector that would fit. The D2S would be too tall as the mini H1 barely fit in there as it is. (top and bottom are both touching)
3. Strongly recommend sanding the plunger, stretching the spring a little, and sharpie the edges of the cutoff shield and lens. The little bit of prep work makes for a better finished project.
4. While you are doing the prep work there is a small wire that holds the cutoff shield in place. It is routed along the bottom of the projector. When I installed the projector it placed tension on the small wire causing the shield to stick. I spend hours trying to figure out why the shield worked great when not mounted but stuck every time it was mounted in the housing. I ended up bending the wire so it tucked up next to the solenoid (black thing sticking down) rather then sit under the solenoid. So when mounted the solenoid is resting on the bottom of the headlight housing rather then the wire.
5. When you trim the shrouds the bottom will be an even cut like in the picture on page 1. The top will be cut at an angle due to the angle of the cars housing going towards the side. I cut mine straight back on the top and you can see a little bit of the projector cause it was cut too short. For a more professional finish stick the shroud in the housing then mark across the shroud along the top where to trim. Cutting it at an angle will make it look better. Dremel with a wheel makes quick work of it.
6. While you have the headlamp assembly out I would check and lube your aiming adjusters. I didn't and after I put them back in to aim the headlight found out one was rusted and broke.
7. I mounted the projector using the large silicone ring inside the housing then the nut on the back side. I removed the metal cover that holds the factory bulbs in the housing and grinded down the nubs on the housing with a dremel. Made a make a nice flat surface for the washer to seat on.
8. If you want kick butt high beams install the HIR bulbs in the high beams. With the projectors and HIR high beam bulbs my high beams are phenomenal!
9. It took me about 8 hours to do the install, including replacing two bumper bolts that were rusted and broke when I tried to remove them. Two hours of the install was spent redoing everything because after I installed the projectors into the housings then mounted the housings I found the high beam was sticking, due to the pressure on the wire.
10. Also don't forget to disable the DRL's and to prolong the life of your ballasts I recommend installing a 528T timer in the headlight positive wire. So when you turn the car on the headlights aren't flickering and kick on and off. The timer will allow you to start the car then the headlights will turn on. 11. If you drive at night you really need to do this mod. I was a tool that ran HID’s in the halogen housings glaring every driver passing me before I got projectors.

xjsman89: Awesome job - Since you put these in last year, have you had any trouble with the bulbs? I think I am going to order these tonight to go in my 2g but just the low beams - the pictures you took really make the lights look professional & that is what I have been looking for. I want it to look like a stock xenon.

You'd better! lol. I wonder if they have a new model out since we had to retrofit those clips to hold the blubs. Or maybe better solenoids? I dunno. I may order another set and try a better retro on my parts car's headlights with a custom backsplash, maybe better halos? Then maybe sell the first set? Now you've got me thinking. You suck, rob.

I want it to look like a stock xenon. Sorry I missed it, man! You're not going to get the bi-xenon at all? I love them but they're definitely not necessary. I haven't had any problems with the bulbs, they work great! If you get all the connections tight then you won't have any problems with them. Thanks, though! The clean, professional look is what I was going for. I wanted them to look stock as well. Put up some pictures when you're done! A 2G how-to would compliment this one nicely. If you felt like making a short writeup for the 2G I would definitely sticky it, it wouldn't have to be a full writeup, rather you could just say how the 2G is different and what problems you ran into, etc. I'm excited!

& can you say dual angel eye projectors? Pulled from CarDomain. I don't like it. I thought about doing that for a while, but I just like the stock look too much to do anything like that. I still might do quad projectors but my setup would be different. I got a set of halogen projectors out of a Deville SLS at the yard the other day that I'd like to play around with as high beam projectors. If you like the look it wouldn't be that much harder to do and definitely looks custom, but it's just not my taste. It is way beyond the factory look now; to me it feels too much like those altezza lights that people slap on civics all the time. ;D Thanks for the compliment, Dan! I like it too. ;D ;D I'd help you get it done if you wanted. You'd have to do the wiring and stuff but I could install them and send them your way. ;D

Oh, right! I totally spaced! I thought he wanted to use the newer projector and retro it in place of the old one. I like these bulbs but the ones that I have aren't a 9006/9007 connection at all or anything. What size are the lows on the 2G?

Post by robaurora01 on Jan 7, 2012 21:45:42 GMT -6
9006 lows on the 2nd gen and 9005 for highs which is really the same bulb just a different rubber

What Collins did is EONS better! hey, i dont mind it. the colors are weird but i like the setup. if i had the money, i would do it I'll be the first to admit that's a pretty bad picture with bad lighting. Street lamp illumination under a tree at night with no flash. Here is a better one but not by much. I'll go into more detail some time later about the setup and why I chose this configuration and color scheme. The shrouds are color matched to body color. It was not all that expensive really. Anyone have a head on shot of single projector in 'chrome' reflector? Collins?

Still not my taste, It's just too much IMO. The one projector looks kinda stock, especially with the chrome. But, of course, to each his own.

Did you get a relay harness? You won't get the full potential out of them without the harness. Otherwise it runs off factory wiring which can often be a bottle neck. Potential to also cause damage to MFS and wiring. Relay is foolproof way to draw power direct from battery using the factory wiring as a trigger and insure no damage to other components.
