Just want to let all ACNA members that I was involved in bad accident and do not know if my Aurora will be back, not your typical fender bender.
I was coming back from a birthday party at around 10:10pm last night, I was on the right lane, another vehicle a Chevy Lumina was cut off by a Hundai Sonata trying to make a left turn and struck the Lumina, the Lumina which was on the left lane, jumped on to my lane and I struck the Lumina on the passenger front door, I came to an end after jumping the sidewalk near an electrical box.
The air bags were deployed in my Aurora, I had my wife, my 4 year old daughter, my 8 year old son and my 10 year old nephew with me in my Aurora, after the air bags deployed the inside of the Aurora began to get fill up with smoke (part of it was from the air bags coming out), I had all of my windows rolled up because it was a bit chilly last night, I could not open my door after the crash the kids began to panic, so thankfully my window was still able to roll down, I climbed out of my window and got all my kids and nephew out, my wife came out a bit shaken, but she is fine, we all were wearing our seatbelts.
The occupants from the Lumina were actually co-workers from were my wife works, so after we came out, some bystanders helped them out and got their 2 kids out, the female driver could not move and get out on her own, she had a broken foot, I found out today, that her bone tore through her skin, good thing I did not see that when I approached their vehicle to see if how they were. The female passenger was like 7 months pregnant, she broke her pelvis and at one point passed out, she was taken to a local hospital were they had to enduce the baby, the baby was born last night weight in 3 pounds, mother and baby are fine.
Thank goodness that we were all wearing our seatbelts.
At this point I don't know what's going to happen with my Aurora, after I saw that we were all fine from the wreck, I took a final look at my Aurora as it sat in a flatbed, the whole front end is damaged, one of my front left wheels bented, tire flat from hitting the sidewalk. I honestly tell you that it hurt me to look at my Aurora in that stage.
But if I would of been in a small compact car, the situation would of been a lot worse, I thank god for letting us walk away from the scene. So please everyone wear your seatbelts, the crash happened in like 2 seconds, I had no time to react. I will keep you guys post it, I did manage to snap a picture of my Aurora as it sat on the flatbed, brother in law had one of those camera phones, I'll get that picture up soon.
You all take care.

Damn, that sucks. Glad to hear you are okay, as I would have expected with a big car like this in a match with a Lumina. The Lumina probably got annihilated by the Aurora.
You had collision & comp coverage on the Rora correct? I hope everytihng turns out ok and they repair it. Although with the fast depreciation that may not happen. Try to get them to get it fixed though and give them some good reasons.

A sad sad end to a great car, but it did its duty and protected the most valuable ones. I'm sure your insurance will come through and hopefully you'll find another Aurora. Whatever happens do us all a favour and stick around. Take care for now Javi!

Wow Javi! I'm very glad you and your family are ok, as well as the other people involved! Like Jim said, the car did its job. There are other Auroras out there, but there aren't other Javi's!

Yes very glad to hear you're safe - especially everyone in the car - gotta love heavy cars, really. Surprised the window could still roll down and the door was so misaligned it couldn't even open!
Would you consider another Aurora purchase?

Thanks Steve, The Lumina did get totalled, both doors in the front were removed by the jaws of life, the front was shot, the inside fron dash came down on the driver. My aurora does have full covarge insurance so I know something good will come out of this, I hope I can get it back fixed. I'll be around herethis is like my cyber home. Thanks Jim. I guess the Auroras are a bit strong to stand it's ground. Thanks Aurora40. Yeah at one point I somewhat began to kick the door and that did not even do much, so I began to roll down the window, to my surprise it actually went down, I just climbed out and got the kids out. I'm getting ready in case they tell me that they can do nothing for my Aurora, I'm considering getting a 2nd Generation Aurora just in case. Now that I think about it the Lumina did not even have airbags at all, go figure.

Javi......If your Classic can't be repaired, there are a lot of 2nd Gens listed on www.autotrader.com Some of them that are there as of today are in the 30 to 40,000 mile range.

Sorry to hear about what happened Javi. I'm glad that no one was killed. It could have been worse, but thankfully it was not. I hope everything and everyone eventually comes out of this ordeal fine. Let us know what comes about from this whole mess.

Well thank God that you and your family are safe. I know you're missing your car and the hassle of an accident and all. But think how life is so much sweeter now, how every moment with your family becomes precious, how you can look over at your smiling children and say "Thank you".

Whew... As everyone else has said, glad to hear you and the family are okay. It could always be so much worse with car wrecks... Perhaps a second-gen is calling. Of course, you could grab one of those extremely low-mileage Classics for half the price of a 30,000 mile second-gen 4.0...

Javi, thank everything that is holy that you and your family are ok. A car can be fixed or replaced, a child however ............... If they don't fix your 'rora, get another one, you know firsthand that it is a safe car. The 2nd Gens have 4 and 5 star crash safety ratings (definitely not a SMART car).

Wheres the pic at? I want to see it just so i can get an idea if they will fix it or not. Since its a 1999 they may fix it. If it were mine, it would be gone for sure.
Btw, you may not want a car that was damaged anyhow. My dads car has never been the same even though the rear end was not even pushed in and no unibody damage from a 60mph hit to the back. It doesnt drive sideways, but it warps the Brembo rotors all the time and the transmission slips if you floor it.

Glad everyone's ok Javi! The Aurora, is a fine car but it is expendable but people are not so good thing you were wearing seatbelts.
Not being able to open the door does not look good for the car unfortunately. My pops is an autobodyman and said many cars with that kind of damage get totaled. Perhaps it is the right time to get a 2nd gen?
p.s. What happened to the folks in the Sonata?

About the picture my brother is the one that took a picture of my Aurora, he is still trying to figure out how to email me that picture. He's got some camera phone that has a little key board attached to it, I guess he is still learning on how to use it, as soon as I get I will post it. Glad everyone's ok Javi! There was only one guy on the Sonata, I had received a call from him like around 2:00am saying that he was very sorry about the accident and that he could not move his neck, but he was not worry about himself, he just wanted to know if we were okay, that he had learned that there were kids involved, so he was very conscerned. I told him that I appreciate that he had called us, he gave me his number and full name and to call him to figure out the details.

Good to hear you and your family are ok. I had a similar accident where a lady cut me off and she ended up hitting into my passenger side front fender, which forced me off the road and into an 8 foot deep ditch. Luckily the ditch only had 3 feet of water in it. My car was not so lucky and it had to be totaled in large part because of water damage.
On the brighter side because the car was totaled I had to get a new one and thats how I ended up with my Aurora. ;D

Javi:
Thankfully you are all safe. God is good and merciful. The Aurora can be replaced and surely your outlook on life from now on will be much different than what it was. A wife and children are all precious gifts from the Lord and thankfully you all still have each other.

A wife and children are all precious gifts from the Lord and thankfully you all still have each other. I echo these sentiments... WOW That really sounds like everyone got real lucky. It is a great example (with unfortunate results) of how fast these things happen... take the precautions necessary, 'cause you never know what's coming your way and won't have time to react when it happens.

I was doing the speed limit, which it was 30 or 35, but since I did not even get a chance to apply the breaks at all, I hit the other car with out slowing down at all.

you're looking at probalby $4,500 in damage. Probably more than that. Looks like you even have transmission damage from the exploded CV joint grease everywhere. Those axles are not cheap.. Looks like you have suspension damage too, fenders obviously, hood, headlights, windsheild, dashboard, airbags, front bumper... are the two front wheels facing opposite directions? I think it's a loss.

Your most likely right, I received the total damage and it's at almost $8,600, looking at Kelly Blue Book value that's less than the $8,600. So probably it will be declared a total loss.
Oh man, gotta start thinking about what I'm going to do with all this.

As soon as I receive word from my insurance, I'm going to remove the wheels and put back the stock wheels and remove my stereo system, HID kit, whatever lighting I can recover.
